Health Show Episode #8 -The Power of Bach Flowers

The Health Show Episode #8 -The Power of Bach Flowers

Our mission is to share simple ways to help you feel more balanced.  And the Bach Flowers definitely fit the bill.  Bach Flower Remedies are often used to help balance emotional states, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to go more into detail about some specific Bach Flower remedies.

Bach Flowers KinesiologyZone Health Show Episode #8

In this Episode, with special guest Maria Stevens, we got to share the amazing powers of Bach Flowers.

Maria Stevens is a Certified Systematic Kinesiologist, Homeopath and Bach Flower consultant.  She shared some of the amazing success stories of people who have used the Bach Flowers including a range of symptoms from children with anxiety, students facing into exams and people who find it hard to make decisions.

This is the first time we have had the opportunity to go into detail about the range of Bach Flowers available to everyone from a Kinesiology prospective and how they can help you in your daily life. Bach Flowers

Bach Flowers – There are seven general categories of emotions that Bach Flower remedies target, and Maria our guest speaker spoke alot about these being used for a range of emotional issues.

  • HEATHER – Treating people who are obsessed with their own troubles and experiences; talkative about themselves; poor listeners.
  • WALNUT – A remedy against helps adjustment to transition or change, eg, puberty, menopause, divorce, new surroundings. This can be espeically helpful to students finishing exams or moving home or taking on a new job.
  • CENTAURY –  Treating children who lack strong will or find it difficult to speak up. It also helps adults who let themselves be exploited or imposed upon and have difficulty in saying “no”; doormat syndrome.

The evidence of effectiveness of Bach Flowers  – here’s a story one of our Diploma students shared with us:

Bach FlowersI had a 9 year old come for some help in relation to anxiety after being locked accidentally in the car when his mum collected his sister from an activity. It was only for a few minutes but he felt trapped and afraid. When he arrived he was quiet and a bit awkward so I did a few muscle tests and this broke the ice and he was very willing to get up to be treated then. So I did some ESR (emotional stress release) and tested him with a few Bach Flower Remedies which I recommended to his mum to get.  During the ESR while he was thinking about the locked car incident he could feel it in his tummy and then he said it was gone and that he could see lots of green! Which I took to be a shift in the emotional situation. When I was finished he sat talking about football to me for 10 mins! He obviously didn’t know his audience! But the difference in him from before and after was amazing!”

You can watch this month’s Episode #8 here, showing a demonstration as to how we select the remedies for a specific stress, as well as our interview with Maria Stevens:

Bach FlowersThe powerful essences can help people who may not show their sadness and keep there emotions hidden, they can naturally treat the deeper emotion.

So if you are ready to eliminate poor emotions, regain your confidence, and find a natural way to help you and those around you get your free Bach Flowers Guide.

Join us next time when we will cover how Adrenal Stress impacts your health and what you can do to prevent it!

Stress does undermine your health. The connection between stress and high blood pressure, heart disease, and many digestive problems is well-established. Stress creates hormonal and blood sugar changes, causes the body to excrete nutrients and adversely affects the immune system. It also puts you on high alert, and can affect digestion and most other health issues.  We will look at how the adrenal glands are directly affected by stress and what you can do to prevent your stress levels from rising!  Planned show date: Thursday 29th June

[ctt template=”4″ link=”H7Dn8″ via=”no” ]Disease is, in essence, the result of conflict between soul and mind, and will never be eradicated except by spiritual and mental effort. Dr Bach[/ctt]

Who’s responsible for our health?

Who is responsible for our health?

When we look to solve current health issues (most of which are non communicable diseases) we often expect governments to “do” something and be responsible for our health.  We want insurance companies to cover more & more everyday health care issues, and the medical system to come up with new drugs.

Yet, doctors learn little about lifestyle changes, or nutrition in their training, and often our health ministers are firefighting the overwhelming responsibilities of the already overstretched resources in our hospitals.

If we’re going to solve the health and well-being crisis, we need to start educating ourselves about how the body works, learn ways to reduce stress, and know what’s best for ourselves as individuals.

Taking responsibility for our own health is key.  Since most people have never learned in school about health (even if you learn human biology), healthy living then becomes confusing as different messages are broadcast from manufactured product companies that lure us with food labels about what is healthy, governments wanting to force chefs to calorie count every meal, and it’s no wonder the healthcare environment becomes more complicated and confusing each passing year!

Healthy living today is different to 30-40 years ago.

  • Stress is on the increase,
  • food is more processed and modified,
  • and we’re exposed to more and more fears, toxins and ill health.

We are also leading more sedentary lives than ever before.  By not moving on a daily basis, our lymphatic system slows down and we don’t eliminate these toxins naturally.

Anyone interested in obtaining optimum health, getting out of pain, and enhancing their feel good factor, will enjoy Systematic Kinesiology.

The Balanced Health Course offers you a simple, enjoyable and experiential way to discover how the body works and motivates our students to be more proactive in seeking ways to be healthy.

Tips to Maintain Good Eye Health

Tips to Maintain Good Eye Health

by Sheila O’ Hanlon

They say the eyes are the windows of the soul but did you also know –

  • Newborns don’t shed tears, though they do know how to cry.
  • You blink about 15-20 times in a minute.
  • The most active muscles in your body are in your eyes.
  • Your eyes can get sunburned.

Amazing facts right ? …  It’s an amazing body part.

Your eyes are pretty important, and with that eye health. In fact, 64%* of people value their sight more than any other sense and yet 36%* of you admit leaving it ‘months’ – and 13%* of you even leave it ‘years’ before seeking help, even after noticing your eyesight has deteriorated.

eye health

And recently I have been asked a lot of questions about eye health including vision and dry eyes that seems to effect a majority of people particularly in the mornings. So i wanted to share some of the advice i give to my students and clients.

Tips to improve Eye Health

  • Drinking clean filtered water is essential for good health and your eyes need a good supply as they are self cleaning.
  • Proper sleep in a dark room allows your retina to heal and repair. Leaving all electronics away from the bed, phones, iPads etceye-149604_1280. Ideally not having a TV in the bedroom is most beneficial.
  • Wearing protective sunglasses on a sunny day.
  • Giving up smoking! Did you know that smoking cigarettes increases free radical production all over the body and. Can seriously cause eyesight and eye health in general to deteriorate. (KINESIOLOGY can also help you to give those monkeys on your back [cigs, drugs, alcohol, toxic relationships] their P45’s!)
  • Taking care of your cardiovascular system by healthy eating and moderate exercise also a great supplement at the onset of winter of CoQ10 to give your heart a boost . High blood pressure can do damage to the tiny blood vessels of your retina and may obstruct the blood flow. One of the best ways to maintain healthy blood pressure is to avoid fructose. Did you know that consuming over 70 geye healthrams of fructose or 2 cans of fizzy drink can seriously affect your blood pressure and heart health.
  • Keep your blood sugar levels in check by opting for food that doesn’t come in a box, learn to love yourself enough to want to prepare a lovely home cooked meal for yourself! Your future self will kiss the ground you walk on xxx.  Too much sugar in your daily intake of food blood can pull fluid from the lens of your eye, affecting your ability to focus. And, it can damage the blood vessels in your retina, also obstructing blood flow.
  • Eat plenty of fresh dark green leafy vegetables, especially kale. Studies have shown that a diet rich in dark leafy greens helps support eye health. And that those with the highest consumption of carotene-rich vegetables, especially ones rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, had increased vision health.
  • Get plenty of healthy omega-3 fat. “A study published in the August 2001 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology found that consuming omega-3 fatty acids was protective of your healthy vision. Unfortunately, due to widespread pollution and fish farming, fish is no longer an ideal source for omega-3 fats unless you can verify its purity. An extraordinary alternative is krill oil, which also contains astaxanthin. This potent antioxidant also has specific benefits for your eyes.”
  • Avoid trans fats. A diet high in trans fat appears to contribute to macular degeneration by interfering with omega-3 fats in your body. Trans fat is found in a lot of processed foods and baked goods, including margarine, cooking fat, fried foods like chips, deep fried chicken, any genre of meat in a can and donuts, cookies, pastries and biscuits. Avoiding trans fat is the best decision you can make for your continued good eyesight.
  • Avoid aspartame at all costs!!! Vision problems is one of the many acute symptoms of aspartame poisoning. Tests on lab rats consuming high amounts of aspartame showed growths of tumors and eye defects!
  • Antioxidants— a substance that inhibits oxidation especially vitamin C (broccoli, kiwi, strawberries, citrus fruit, cauliflower) and vitamin E (wheatgrass, wheatgerm) as these remove potentially damaging oxidizing agents in living organisms. Antioxidants neutralize the dangerous build up of free radicals in your body and your eyes.
  • Vitamin A – is needed in large quantities.

These antioxidants in particular have shown to benefit your eye health:

Lutein
Zeaxanthin
Black currant anthocyanins

SOURCES OF LUTEIN IN FOOD: (Lutein per cup, cooked and drained)

Kale ……………26.5mg
Spinach………13.3mg
Broccoli…………3.4mg
Corn………………1.4mg

Romaine lettuce, raw…..1.4mg

Courgettes……..2.7mg
Peas………………2.4mg
Oranges………… 0.31mg

No matter who you are, regular eye exams are important for seeing more clearly, learning more easily and preserving your vision for life.  Your eyes are not only the most important of your 5 senses, but without proper eye care, the health in the other areas of your body will suffer. As you may know it is extremely important to keep your eyes healthy.

The Law of the 5 Elements – Yin/Yang

Stephanie Mills Law of the 5 Elements

The Law of the 5 Elements – Yin/Yang

Ch’i or Life Force Energy

This is the vital spark which enlivens us and causes all that we are to function. It is represented by this ancient sign, the Yin and Yang. The Law of the Five Elements is based on oriental understanding of how energy flows in the body and how they are influenced by every aspect of life . Our emotions, colours, season, times and much more.Female yoga figure in a transparent sphere composed of four natural elements (water fire earth air) as a concept for controlling emotions and power over nature.

The Law of the Five Elements is rich in symbolism. It contains many ways of looking at our energies and our lives. It is a left/right brain challenge to think in terms of amorphous energies without shape or form, yet these same energies obey strict laws.

Yin/Yang Symbol

This ancient symbol represents energy as it is present in life. In a sense there is no such thing as always and never, and something and nothing. Where we think there is nothing, there is often something, we just do not know how to observe it or measure it, so we say is it not there.

The light part represents the YANG energy, which traditionally is the MALE energy, but it is also LIGHT, and the SUN, it is positive, it is SOUTH, HOT and EXTERNAL. The dark part of the symbol represents the yin energy , which is traditionally FEMALE energy, but is is also DARK, and the MOON, and NEGATIVE (in the electrical sense, not the emotional sense), it is NORTH, COLD and INTERNAL.

EPSON MFP image

Active/passive, Strong/Gentle, Hot/Cold are not judgmental in any way, only expressions of Yin-ness or Yang-ness. And observe there is a spot of light in the dark part, indicating that there is nothing that is all or nothing. There is no absoluteness. Our left brains, trained thoroughly in fallacies that there are, find this hard to believe.

Even thing we thought were stable, like the atom, proves to be much more variable than we once thought. It contains particles, and non particles that we cannot see but that we know they are there.

The Five elements are:  FIRE, EARTH, METAL, WATER, WOOD

EPSON MFP image

The M.C.P.E logo in the middle represents the fact we are in the middle of a “world” of elemental energy in which we live and have our being, our verb to describe continuity.  Each of the Five Elements is in a sense a loving couple or pair of couples who take care of each other. The male or yang organs are in a protective circle around the female yin organs to shield them from the outside world of external energies.

What Chewbacca Mom Taught me ….

What Chewbacca Mom Taught me ….

Chewbacca Mom, Joy, Kinesiology

We have all seen the video of the Chewbacca mask and if you’re anything like me you laughed out loud.  Candace Payne has managed through social media to give us all a glimpse of how ‘simple joy’ doesn’t have to cost a lot of money and it can be the small things that can make an impact in someone’s life.  She has now over 817,000 followers on her profile and since her spontaneous and authentic video, she been on TV networks all over the US.  What is lovely is that her smile and laugh have stayed the same.

She made an instant connection with so many people through her authentic self, joy and happiness. She has managed to make so many people smile in one week, and since!  It made me start to think about what we do here at KinesiologyZone.

And in one sense we are doing the same, helping people to smile, find their joy, passion and contribute in a big way.  While maybe not on a worldwide scale (yet!) it is our mission to reach more people and show them that life doesn’t have to be hard, fearful, or stressful.  With more training courses than ever happening around Ireland and a record number of students joining us this year we are helping more and more people to experience the wonderful holistic approach of Systematic Kinesiology. Candace helped us to remember to be ourselves, connect with others and the simple joy that can be found in a moment.

And our “work” has everything to do with joy which is evident from some of our student success stories:

Just read Laura’s recent “win”:

”My client wanted a nutritional test done so I did a full wheel balance and her left arm muscles all were weak. She hadn’t been able to do any of her boot camp classes so from that I did priority and worked on the two that showed up.  I was delighted how I could immediately know what the best treatment I could move onto which would help her pain. The next morning she texted to say the pain had gone and could now move her arm more freely. She will be back to her classes this week”.

Now hear Elaine’s joy

”I had twin girls aged 11 attend … I carried out full wheel balances with priority and food and nutrition testing to the best of my ability. I received a text from their mum saying the two girls are doing fantastic eating a lot healthier, sleeping a lot better and loads of energy and are returning in 3 weeks’ time for another appointment”

And one last one from Shauna….

”My client with a neck issue from birth came back for a Balance. She is in great form! No pain in her neck!  She is very busy setting up a new business and has been extremely busy. Not having to deal with her once constant pain has made this easier. We worked on positive affirmations to build her self-confidence.”

If you spread joy in your daily life we want to hear from you, as it would give us great joy to hear your story …

Planning for Success

Planning For Success

I think trying to change things outside is why we end up beating ourselves up, because it’s not the outcomes we have to change – it’s the inside stuff. Beliefs, values, raising standards, and creating a vision for your life.  When it comes to planning for success we put things in our way that we really need to let go of.  Sometimes it’s just thinking, sure I’ll wait until I’ve more time, or when I feel “ready”.  Truth is, those are just fears, that are really illusions or distractions.  I’ve got so much more done this year, simply by recognising what is a distraction in my life.  I know I’m a recovering procrastinator, and by no means perfect! Perfection is a low standard to aspire too anyway, since there is always something more!

We’ve just a few days left of this year and while the temptation is let them slide …. it is also a great time of year to reflect on the year gone by and decide what’s going to be different next year. Our happiness is determined by the emotions we are feeling moment by moment.  So how was 2015 for you?

We asked that on our Facebook page to describe your year in one word – here’s some of the answers:

  • enlightening,
  • life-changing,
  • educational,
  • fantastic, and even
  • Supercalifragilisticexpialidoxious!

Of course for many others it was far from all those, and I know there have been years like that for me too.

For us, 2015 has been a huge year of change for TASK Ireland and KinesiologyZone.

On the surface it may not be visible – though we moved the office into a a “proper” several room office, out of my home and hired a new full time member of staff.  Also invited 8 new trainees to learn how to teach our Balanced Health Course in many more venues around the country. So yes quite a few changes that are visible.  Those changes though have been badly needed for many years, but it was the internal changes that had to happen first.

planning for success

I’ve found over the years, that making decisions about daily habits and rituals is more important than the outcome we desire – the outcome is “lose 25lbs”, “get fit”, “change jobs” will take care of themselves.  Our lives are determined by the moment by moment decisions we make.

So if you’ve been thinking about a change of career, have a love of people and helping them, and know deep down you’ve wanted to contribute in a bigger way, then the Balanced Health Course is a great place to start.  If you want this time next year to be different, then today is the day to start planning for success.  Turn your “I can’ts” into small steps, not massive goals.  I’ve learned to let go of doubt, worries and comparisons because those things just get in the way!  They are distractions.

Here’s what previous students who have taken the plunge say:

The course has been life changing for me. Seeing the progress physically, mentally and emotionally in those I’ve worked with and myself included“.

This course fits in well with anyone’s busy lifestyle. It’s extremely well laid out and easy to follow.”

It’s the best decision I have made and it’s a career for the rest of my life, you meet some great people
and make great friends too”.

“Before learning SK my health and life were average. Back pain and digestive problems for several years. Since the course I have lost weight, have better skin and definitely have more energy and clarity.

I would recommend this training to anyone whether they want to take more control of their own health and that of their family or they wish to become a practitioner. Of all the training I have undertaken Sk has been the best and the only course I can say that has been life changing.”

WHAT would your life look like if you started training in as holistic a therapy as Systematic Kinesiology?

Just imagine …..

Food allergies vs food sensitivities. And Systematic Kinesiology

A common question I get asked is about Food Allergies and and Food Sensitivities.

Here’s my answer that I recorded while I am on a walk – multi tasking as ever.

Systematic Kinesiology is all about finding out what is stressing you, and food can be a common stressor.  It’s not the only thing, and often when we become sensitive to a lot of foods, it more of a sign that the body is out of balance and responding to a lot more stresses than just food.  So while it can be helpful to avoid certain foods for a certain length of time, and it’s only part of the path to recovery.

Stress is the #1 cause of chronic illnesses in the modern world.  Your body is designed to be respond to stress in a certain way – the fight/flight response.  When your body is responding to a stress (like running away from danger) it turns it’s attention away from other less essential “in the moment” needs – like digestion, fighting infections, even logical thinking can be affected – because if you’re running away from danger you haven’t time to think about it you just have to respond.  So we spend our lives responding to stressful stituations, not always feeling like we’ve time to think about it.

In the Balanced Health Course, we teach you how to reduce the effects of worries and stresses of today, and how to do test foods.  People’s lives can literally be changed because they find out that some of their symptoms are related to the foods they’re eating, and that they are constantly in a stress response place.

The video is much shorter than what I’ve written above – it’s really about the question, but that has inspired the above post now.

Enjoy, and the bird song 🙂
