Living with Fibromyalgia: Kinesiology can Help

Living with Fibromyalgia -Kinesiology can help

Also called fibromyalgia syndrome, is a long-term condition that causes pain all over the body.

It comes from three Latin words:

  • ‘fibro’ meaning fibrous tissues, such as tendons (tissue that connects muscles to bones) and ligaments (tissue that connects bones to bones)
  • ‘my’ meaning muscles
  • ‘algia’ meaning pain

Earlier this month, Lady Gaga announced the cancellation of the upcoming leg of her world tour due to her ongoing battle with fibromyalgia syndrome alot of people had never heard of it until them and wonder exactly what was Fibromyalgia.

How common is it?

The number of people who suffer from fibromyalgia in Ireland is not known but approximately 14 million people in the EU have the syndrome and 1-3% of the global population. In most cases, it occurs between 30 and 60 years of age, but it can develop in people of any age, including children and the elderly.

The number of people who suffer from it in Ireland is not known but approximately 14 million people in the EU have the syndrome and 1-3% of the global population.

It can be a difficult condition to diagnose because there is no specific test and the symptoms can be similar to those of other conditions.

Many people with the syndrome may have:

Pain and tender points
Fatigue
Sleep problems
Concentration and memory problems, known as “fibro fog”
Anxiety or depression
Morning stiffness
Numbness, and tingling in hands, arms, feet, and legs
Headaches
Irritable bowel syndrome
Problems with peeing
Painful menstrual cramps
Pain and Tender Points

Almost all people with fibromyalgia ache all over. It can feel similar to osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis, but it’s over your entire body. This is usually what makes you go see your doctor.

It is a chronic condition which can be treated multi dimensionally. There is a clear physical component and chemical component that Kinesiology can address, the first line of defense is to decrease pain then to address the cause, and Applied Kinesiology can pinpoint exactly what nutrients and herbs will be effective for you. Lastly fibromyalgia is almost an emotional component. Kinesiology can identify the stress and where it is coming from in your life.

The Health Show Episode #9 – How Adrenal Stress Impacts your Health

The Health Show Episode #9 – How Adrenal Stress Impacts your HealthAdrenal Stress - KinesiologyZone

Wow .. what a great turn up and interest in our latest Health Show. We had the largest audience to-date, therefore it’s not hard to believe a lot of people are suffering out there from a range of adrenal stress symptoms.

Adrenal fatigue is estimated to affect around 80 percent of people in the world. This was one of the many reasons we choose Adrenal Stress as our topic for this episode of our Health Show. A lot of people feel deflated, frustrated and overwhelmed with symptoms and a lot of time they don’t understand what is happening.

It’s our opinion adrenal fatigue and stress can not only be managed but resolved with some techniques we use in Systematic Kinesiology. A practitioner can test you for nutritional deficiency, reduce emotional triggers, clear blocks in energy to improve the whole system and review your diet.

The Health Show on Adrenal Stress was filled with so much information today and the half hour flew by quickly. As a result, we didn’t get a chance to demonstrate the iris contraction test which is an easy test you do at home. It measures your body’s stamina in response to light stimulation.

Adrenal Stress Test Directions

Here’s what you’ll need to take the test:

  • Weak (not too bright) flashlight or phone light
  • Mirror
  • Dark room

In a dark room, sit or stand in front of a mirror for about a minute to allow your eyes to adjust to the light. “Then shine a flashlight across one eye (not directly into it) from the side of your head. Keep the light shining steadily across one eye and watch in the mirror with the other. Firstly, you should see your pupil (the dark circle in the centre of the eye) contracts immediately as the light hits your eye. This occurs because the iris, a tiny circular muscle composed of small muscle fibers, contracts and dilates the pupil in response to light.

So the pupil normally remains contracted in the increased light, but if the pupil is uable to hold its contraction and dilates [opens back up] despite the light shining on it, this is an indication of fatigue.

Dilation may last for about 30-45 seconds before it recovers and contracts again. It’s a good idea to time how long the dilation lasts and record it along with the date.

If you have any difficulty doing this on yourself, do it with a friend. Have them shine the light across your eye while both of you watch the pupil size.   (Source: Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome)

Signs you have adrenal fatigue (and what to do about it)

Signs you have Adrenal Fatigue (and what to do about it)

by Sheila O’Hanlon

The thyroid and adrenals are so intricately connected. It wouldn’t be a surprise to me at all if many people suffering from Hypothyroid are struggling with adrenal stress and they have no idea.

Have you heard of the adrenal glands? They are 2 tiny little organs that sit on top of your kidneys and control quite a few actions in your body including your stress response, weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, and immune system. The adrenal glands are really quite incredible in tAdrenals - Kinesiologyzonehat, as a species, they are our primary survival organs.

Over 80% of us will experience adrenal fatigue multiple times over our lives. Symptoms can include weakness, lack of energy, trouble concentrating, becoming easily confused, forgetfulness, trouble completing basic tasks you could once handle easily, hoarse voice, poor digestion, constipation, depression, insomnia, not feeling rested after waking from sleep, and relying on naps during the day.

Adrenal fatigue has existed as long as we have, but it has only reached epidemic proportions over the last 100 years. Why is this? The answer lies in the way that our lifestyles have changed over that time. The average person’s stress levels, diet and toxic load are all immeasurably worse today than they were at the start of the twentieth century.

The best way to support your adrenals and help recover your health is to eat a light, balanced meal every 90 minutes to two hours.Giving your adrenal glands lots of rest allows them to devote energy to healing and restoring themselves.

Each of your meals should ideally contain a balance of potassium, sodium, and natural sugar (from fruit). Snacks you can graze on to help recover your adrenal health, including:

Apple, celery, and dates
Orange, avocado, and spinach
Sweet potato, kale, and lemon juice
Cucumber, avocado, and lime juice
Banana, dates, and romaine lettuce
Coconut water, dried apricots and celery
Coconut water, banana, and spinach
Pear, berries, and mache
Mango, figs, and celery

The last and most important key to restoring your adrenal function is to heed your mind and stress needs. Pay attention to your body! To learn some techniques to help you do this join Siobhan on Facebook live this Thursday. Click the link to register your place or get the replay.

If you aim for a balanced lifestyle with a healthy level of exercise and sleep including a positive environment, then you are most likely to keep your adrenal system going strong.

“Adrenal fatigue, in all its mild and severe forms, is usually caused by some form of stress. Stress can be physical, emotional, psychological, environmental, infectious, or a combination of these. It is important to know that your adrenals respond to every kind of stress the same, whatever the source.”
